Loan origination rebuilt from the ground up

Accion Opportunity Fund hired Piton Labs to re-architect and rebuild the web application used for small-business loans. The application integrated with AOF’s existing loan origination and management systems.

That meant understanding how the unique lending process worked before building the user experience. We worked from AOF’s high-level requirements, learned the existing system, and developed the replacement application and supported it post-launch.

“We were immediately impressed with not only Piton's technical capabilities, but also their deep understanding of our complex loan origination system. They were able to take our high level requirements and execute on them seamlessly.”

Financial data and identity verification

We built financial data platforms, integrated Alloy KYC and a wide of disperate variety of data feeds, and supported AOF’s custom scorecard. This work extended beyond the loan application to the data and systems used in the lending process.

The launch led to a longer partnership

Following the rewrite and launch, AOF committed to at least another year of work with Piton Labs to support and grow its technology. The team could continue developing the product with engineers who already understood the application and lending process.

“We had so much success with the initial rewrite and its launch that we've committed to (at least) another year with the Piton Labs team to help support and grow our technology.”

Understanding the problem before the specification is finished

AOF’s Chief Analytics Officer, Nicole Van Der Tuin, described why that experience mattered to the collaboration:

“They are true thought partners and can jump into the process of understanding and solving a problem, big or small, immediately, as opposed to needing to wait for the business requirements to get clearer and more polished, which is what leads to a better interface, a more effective and delightful customer experience, and a much higher ROI on engineering spend.”
